10 Simple Things that make me Happy… #9

#9

I’ve been a teeny tiny bit obssessed with buttons for a while.

When I was younger, I remember sitting with my Grandma’s button box (an old cigar box with a flappy lid), and running my hands through the buttons. Some were fairly new, some older than me. Some were picked off old shirts or blouses, some were still tacked to the card.

They all had stories.

And when Grandma died, that was the only thing I asked for from her house, to remind me of happy times playing with buttons before eating bananas and custard to the soundtrack of “the problem solver who gets results” on the radio. Problem was, Grandma didn’t have one button box. By the time mum found the button box I wanted, I had inherited an ice cream tub and several other boxes full of buttons. As well as some embroidery thread, cotton reels, pins… And if an object has a story, I can’t turn it away.

So now, I have an ice cream tub, a quality street tin, and a tupperware box of buttons that I can call my own.

As well as a mug…

And some brand new coasters from The Boy…

And a picture from my friend Princess Helen…

Oh, and a few other things….

I’ll stop there. Buttons make me happy, and I’m grateful for the people who know this.

Bargain Hunting…

I had another lovely weekend again this weekend; seems I’ve been having lots of those lately 🙂

Me and my housemates went into Bath, to visit the Vintage fair I mentioned in my blog post yesterday. It was so good! There were lots of stalls, selling clothes, accessories, shoes and knik-knacks. Pippa bought some adorable pillowcases, a cosy woolly cardigan and a couple of colourful scarves, and Rosie bought a lovely top. And I got some brlliant bargains…

How beautiful is this blouse?! And it was a tenner! I mean, come on! A tenner? Look at that neckline *sigh*… I tried it on thinking “this could be lovely for work”, but I think it’s definitely a Sunday Best blouse.

Then, I went on to bag this colourful and cosy scarf for £4, which has the most beautiful berry colours and a green that matches perfectly with a pair of boots I own  and wear all the time. We spent a good few hours browsing, went for food at TGI Fridays, and then went straight back to finish off looking at the stalls. Although I didn’t buy much, I had such a fun, girly day, and I’m so glad we went to have a look. Happy, happy day!

After all that shopping, I didn’t have the energy to go and see the exhibition I wanted to, so that’s a treat for later in the week. I’ll keep you posted!
